If I add a custom resolution it just marks it as invalid, even if I use the preset provided by the program. I've played about with custom resolutions but can't get it to send a 2560x1400 60Hz signal scaled to 1920x1080. the screen changes and displays a really high quality image with the OS GUI scaled and at a much less eye taxing size. If I select 1280x800 (16:10 so an incorrect aspect). If I try to select 1280x720, nothing happens at all. I get the usual options that are available in display and very few "Retina" options. I don't actually get many options in this program. I've had a look into both RDM & SwitchResX but don't really understand what I'm doing.

I would like to run the display so that the screen scaling matches 1080p, but I want the image to be at the full resolution of my monitor, 1440p. Non Retina (This is my actual display settings for the monitor in question

The Display menu is confusing in my opinion because it displays different scaling options for retina & non retina displays: The side monitors on windows look blurry, when compared to the main and I paid alot of money for my new monitor and I'm very happy with it, so I want to run it at full whack.

If I set the display to 1080p the strain goes but the quality of the image is worse than my side monitors. I've been getting eye strain this week when my main monitor is set to 1440p, its really bad. On Mac I'm having a few more problems getting this display scaling to work properly.

All you need to do is whack 1 slider up to set an appropriate display scale and you're done. I bought a new 1440p 165Hz beast of a gaming monitor, I've been using it on windows since November with absolutely no issues. I'm back in the home office but the setup has changed since I last used it (which worked perfectly).

I use a Dell D6000 Dock to connect my 2018 MacBook Pro (and when WFH in lockdowns my work Mac Mini). This setup until November was 3 1080p 27" monitors. It is the only display that isn't the XDR 6K which comes close to the internal displays that is this size and colour accuracy.I have a triple monitor setup, I use it for my gaming computer primarily. I think the default support for 3rd party monitors is probably lacking and hopefully will get better in time.įor those considering this monitor, I cannot recommend it more strongly despite these issues. I think the machine could comfortably drive the display at these higher resolutions and I don't think there is a hardware limitation.

If anyone knows how to insert custom plist files into Big Sur and disable the new SIP then please let me know!Īside from that, the machine drives the display noticably better than even the eGPU (AMD RX5700XT in Razor Core X) which Big Sur has never liked and punished me with endless system crashes and failures to disconnect. I have been unsuccessful attempting to disable the Protected Mode so far as I get system errors both in Recovery Mode and booted into Big Sur. I have downloaded the current beta of SwitchResX but there is seemingly no way to add custom resolutions at this stage. This setting wasn't available by default, even in Big Sur so I previously used SwitchResX to generate a custom resolution.

I purchased it because I was hoping it would replace my 2020 Intel Macbook Pro i7 with eGPU that was needed to drive this display at what I think it the optimum resolution: 3840x1620. I am using the LG 34" with the Apple MacBook Air 16GB/1TB (so same GPU as Macbook Pro).
